Water
Annual average water demand in Cambridge is about 180,000 gallons per day. The City of Cambridge is part of the BIC (Bartley, Indianola, Cambridge) Water Agency, which provides water to all three communities from a common well field located north of Bartley. This water system includes three wells, ground storage, a booster station, and water lines that provide water to each of the communities’ master meter pits. This joint agency, formed in 2008, is a money-saver and great asset for all three communities. The City of Cambridge did keep one well by the highway, known as 83-1, for emergency use.
Sewer
The City of Cambridge owns and operates the collection system, a lift station, and an extended air-oxidation ditch wastewater treatment facility. The collection system flows to the lift station via a 12-inch PVC sewer main that was upgraded in 2004. The treatment facility, most recently upgraded in 2005, provides treatment through an oxidation ditch, aerated bio-solid digesters, drying beds, and ultraviolet disinfection prior to discharging to the Republican River.
Electrical & Natural Gas
The City of Cambridge receives power from Twin Valleys Public Power District, which is served by a 69KV, three-phase transmission line owned by the Nebraska Public Power District. The city constructed a 4 MW generator system in 2006, which now services the city and the adjacent ethanol plant. The city also recently invested $150,000 on air emissions, using catalytic converters. A number of distributors provide natural gas to Cambridge residents and businesses, which make an annual selection as to which provider they will use for the coming year.

Hospital/Medical
Tri Valley Health System: A Model for Success
What is known as Tri Valley Health System began nearly 60 years ago with the opening of Cambridge Memorial Hospital in 1958. With assistance from a Hill-Burton grant, a fund drive by area residents, and a bequest from John Decker, the dream of creating a hospital to service Furnas County and the surrounding area was realized.
The hospital quickly grew and expanded with medical clinics throughout Furnas County and eastern Red Willow County. In the early 1990s, the health network again expanded services to include senior care and housing and became Tri Valley Health System.
On Oct. 3, 2010, Tri Valley Health System celebrated yet another expansion with the grand opening of a new state-of-the-art facility to house Cambridge Memorial Hospital and Cambridge Medical Clinic.
Medical Clinics
Tri Valley Health System features three rural health clinics to serve the residents of southwest Nebraska and northwest Kansas. Located in Arapahoe, Cambridge and Indianola, these clinics are served by Tri Valley’s skilled Medical Staff and provide family medical care in convenient locations. From obstetrics to annual physicals and treatment for illness or injury, Tri Valley’s Medical Clinics offer a range of services with the ability to refer to visiting specialists when needed.

Pharmacy
Mark’s Pharmacy
Mark’s Pharmacy is a full-service pharmacy in Cambridge, which allows residents to get the medications they need right downtown. Originally from Fort Dodge, IA, pharmacist and owner Mark McCurdy completed his pharmacy training at Creighton University in 1988. He and his wife Sheryl (now also known lovingly by locals as Shirley K for her Shirley K’s coffee shop and café in the same building as the pharmacy) returned to Sheryl’s hometown of Cambridge in 1989, starting Mark’s Pharmacy in 2002 and Shirley K’s Coffee Shop in 2003.
Mark and the other pharmacists, technician and staff there are proud of the pharmacy’s history and dedication to the idea that quality care means more than just prompt filling of prescriptions. To them, quality care means that folks get the prescriptions and medications they need, along with the personal care and attention they deserve. When you go to Mark’s Pharmacy, you can count on dependable care from knowledgeable pharmacists—professionals that take the time to get to know you and your unique health needs.

Schools
Cambridge Public Schools
The Cambridge Public Schools system (K-12) has proven that superior leadership, community support, and inspired teachers can offer students in rural Nebraska an education competitive with any urban school. The School District #21 covers 280 sq. miles in Furnas, Gosper, Red Willow, and Frontier Counties. The district has an enrollment of over 300 students grades Kindergarten through 12th grade. The Cambridge Public School is fully accredited by the Nebraska Department of Education and the North Central Association.
Children that live in Cambridge attend a single campus, Kindergarten through twelfth grade. A one-campus school district typically viewed as very beneficial for families, students, and faculty. Cambridge Public Schools are the home of the Trojans and they belong to the Republican Plains Athletic Conference.
In fall 2015, Cambridge Public Schools started a preschool for 3 & 4 year olds. If you have any questions regarding this, please visit their website.
